Tweethouse Jimmy Show Banner

Our Press announcement earlier this afternoon in conjunction with Parnassus Group hosting the Tweethouse conference at the Sundance Film Festival this weekend in Park City Utah revealed that Watchitoo Live Events will continue with streaming a live broadcast January 23rd & 24th from “140 | The Twitter Conference” aka Tweethouse, at the 2010 Sundance. The tweethouse coverage will include online video streaming from the SHOP Yoga Studio in Park City, Utah and the broadcast will take place from 4pm-7pm EST with guest appearance around 5pm.

In addition to the live streaming coverage, Watchitoo will  “beam-in” special guest speaker Jimmy Jean-Louis, from hit NBC show “Heroes” where he’s known as “The Haitian.” Jean-Louis will address the Tweethouse attendees remotely from LA and speak about Haiti relief efforts being undertaken by his foundation, Hollywood Unites For Haiti (HUFH), as part of the celebrity Tweetup for Haiti setting up shop at Sundance, co-hosted by Levar Burton: who expressed his commitment to doing what he can to aid Haiti efforts.

Steve Broback, founder of the Parnassus Group, which is organizing the event said, “Because Watchitoo’s Live Events platform is uniquely suited to broadcast and discuss content in real-time using video, it’s a perfect match for this event and adds an extra layer of excitement.” Watchitoo is excited to being working with the Parnassus Team @parnassusgroup: @sbroback @jasonp107 which orchestrates  @14otc and other great events like the CES “It wont stay in vegas” blogger after party.

A premium offering that enables interactivity among physical and virtual participants, the Watchitoo platform can be used for live event streaming, allowing speakers to be showcased in an interactive manner when beamed remotely, and enabling panelists from around the world to join in events and share content and commentary.

Rony Zarom, our founder and CEO has stated: “Watchitoo is proud to provide technology to aid the celebrity tweetup for Haiti relief efforts. This initiative further demonstrates how social media can be used to mobilize activists and raise awareness in the community…Obviously, Twitter has exploded in popularity, and the film industry has taken notice our Live Events platform is being recognized by event coordinators as a premium component in connecting conference attendees and those who choose to participate remotely. We are thrilled to bring ‘140 | The Twitter Conference’ virtually to audiences around the globe.”

Shal Ngo, our Watchitoo Event Producer will be out at Tweethouse Sundance interacting with people attending @140tc, and giving some personal updates about the happenings- look out for him there!

Pro it! Con it! Gear & Gadget Reviews

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

When I’m on the edge, I jump, so when I finally got to edge of buying a professional level camera, I leaped into a world of corporate subterfuge, a land with answers as elusive as the always elusive tiger. The world of online reviews is as scandalous and artificial as the World Bank assisting developing nations.  Press releases proclaiming the arrival of perfection are out of place and inappropriate for a critical product review, but everyone knows that.  Harder to discern are the numerous corporate agents muscling their way on to message boards, posing as unbiased users.  When reading online reviews you have to be exceedingly critical of everything you read.  Beyond CIA-like corporate bloggers, reviews often lack new information on new technology.  Reading out dated product reviews is like gathering information on the year 2000 by watching “The Jetsons” -silly and oddly similar to “The Flinstones”.

 Sam Blog ProitConit

As a camera buyer, I need to review test footage as available on Youtube and Vimeo but I also need detailed explanations on the circumstances of the footage.  In short, I can surely benefit from sitting down with a user and going over their footage.  Understanding that buyers’ needs were not being met by the current informational hubs out there, I took the initiative in utilizing Watchitoo’s live content collaboration by creating the public show “Pro it! Con it!”  I uploaded helpful videos from Youtube including my very own test footage.  By watching the footage live with a community interested in the same camera, I was able to instant message and video conference about what we were seeing, methods used, etc.  For those still in the market I was able to provide first hand product information, they could speak with people experienced with the product.  For those in the know they could offer support or rebuttals. However anyone can also create their own show, and set it to public or private settings, for any product they’re researching. I even invited my filmmaker friends to upload footage from their own cameras and to review them.  Now my show was becoming an honest and current source of reviews.  Watchitoo’s focus on community and live content sharing really lends itself to an honest, friendly, and ever-growing bank of advice. It wasn’t around when I initially leaped into the buyers market, but I now know where to start my next public or private research forum.

Think you bought a stud or a dud?  Load up your content on my show “Pro it! Con it!” and we’ll open the doors to a worthwhile discussion!

Building Community: Will Scott DJs LIVE

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

DJ banner

Recent online trends have revealed a societal need to build community around content. The Watchitoo experience is a perfect way to foster community and leverage engagement with personal connections, users, and fans that belong to any network. The ability to do so has been extremely beneficial to our users and can be adopted by any website or company. We as media consumers no longer want to be passive bystanders; we want to partake in a dialogue and provide communication input through heightened engagement.

The Watchitoo Platform enables just that- A few months ago Watchitoo started a live DJ show  that takes place on the website three nights a week hosted by DJ Will Scott. Users join the show through the homepage and interact with Will who created fun shows such as “Jazz-Funk-Fusion” such as the one displayed below displaying great music clips and good beats.

Will Scott streams himself directly talking to individuals joining the show throughvideo chatting and instant messaging, who make musical requests and comment on what is being played. Just as Will Scott hosts a live music show, other musicians, and entertainment companies can use Watchitoo to reach fans and draw in users to build community around content. The musical host of a show can interact with all followers through live chat and video functions and leverage the social networking tools and features the Watchitoo Media Player provides, such as Facebook /Twitter connection, along with the ability to add/invite friends not already part of the network, further expanding any existing community.  Returning users come back weekly to see what new music Will puts up, demonstrating how building community on Watchitoo keeps an audience coming back for new engagements and content experiences.

Below is one of Will’s shows, he is usually visible live chatting in the top right corner.

DJWillScottShow

DJ Will Scott, has brought in upto a couple hundred views for some of hisshows such as “Super-Funk” or “Jazz Funk Fusion,” shared his experience on the platform with the team stating:

“I’ve gotten a good amount of feedback about the show as well as the site in general. I have noticed that by interacting and conversing with the viewers, the experience on the site is enhanced. When I am live streaming myself it always encourages/influences others to live stream as well and to explore the site. Of course, with the DJ show the music is the focus, and it has been my goal to not only provide good music but also a deeper look into the history of music. The Watchitoo interface is great for this- through the use of the chat I am able to strike up conversations about anything from genres of music and bands, to a viewer’s favorite musician, to which I can respond by pulling a YouTube video that shows the viewer something they’ve never seen/heard before. I’ve turned people on to new music and bands that they would never have heard of unless they watched my show.

I feel like finding new music these days is a chore, especially since MTV doesn’t play many music videos anymore. I try to provide viewers with interesting and quirky videos that will hold their attention and provide worthwhile entertainment. It is actually very fun to hang out on watchitoo and watch music videos with friends- and I definitely love when other people feed off of a video or theme I am going for and add their own twist to it by adding a few music videos and talking about them.” ~Will Scott

With all of the engaging features the Watchitoo experience provides in one fully integrated social collaboration platform, building community is a natural progression. It is the evolution of social networking, content sharing and online communication. Through varied forms of interaction such as chat, video conferencing, and live streaming, entertainers can use the medium to build a community of devoted fans eager to consume and engage over their content in real-time.

The Preservation of Live Performance

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

New York!
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of,
There’s nothing you can’t do,
Now you’re in New York!
These streets will make you feel brand new,
the lights will inspire you,
Let’s hear it for New York…”

Jay-Z’s new album, The Blueprint 3, was released on a day that New Yorkers will always commemorate: September 11th.  On one of his hottest tracks, Empire State of Mind, Alicia Keys belts out these words that remind every New Yorker, young and old, what will always be true: If you can make it here, you really can make it anywhere.

jay-zBlueprint3Cover

H.O.V.A had his live release concert and 9/11 benefit for Answer the Call, a New York police and fire widow’s and children’s fund, at Madison Square Garden.  Two days later he and Alicia Keys brought the house down at the MTV Video Music Awards performing Empire State of Mind. I couldn’t attend the concert or the VMA’s, but I saw it all online.

You can too,  on the watchitoo Jay-Z show.

Liz Jayz

I came to Manhattan 5 years ago, not to become a hip hop artist (although that would be a hysterical venture no doubt), but to become an actor and to add my own voice to the deafening roar that is the New York art scene. Friends and family try to make the voyage as often as possible to see what I’m working on, but traveling is expensive and not always possible, and some performances have fallen through the cracks along with a multitude of forgotten live performances.

But like Jay-Z’s momentous September weekend, those performances need no longer be lost to one time and venue. Not everyone has made it to Madison Square Garden, broadcast on network television for the world to see, but with social networking sites like YouTube and now Watchitoo, all you need is a webcam and a little space, and your art can be live for anyone to see.

And with Watchitoo, it becomes more than a showcase. It becomes a dialogue. Even more vital to the artistic process than a passive audience is the feedback that fosters conversation and better understanding.  I can not only share a reading of my new play with my uncle across the country, but he can share his thoughts real time with me. With one click, he becomes as much a part of the process 3,000 miles away as I am in a small blackbox theatre in lower Manhattan.

And there is so much art in this city that should be shared. From theatre to music, art to dance and everything in between, culture is not just for those who happen to be in the right place at the right time. All you need is a computer, a comfy chair and a connection, and you, too, can be a part of the concrete jungle that fosters new art every day.

~Liz Alderfer
