The Rev. John Foundation Little League team from Kampala, Uganda was the very first team in African history to qualify for the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, PA. Although, last July, the team was denied visas for travel to the US and the poor kids’ hopes of making history and competing in their first ever Little League World Series were dashed.
Yesterday Jay Shapiro and Ruth Hoffman of British Columbia, in conjunction with the Vancouver Sun, came on Watchitoo to make an amazing announcement. Because the Ugandan team were unable to play the World Series, Shapiro and Hoffman announced that they’re bringing the World Series to Uganda! $155,000 is being raised by mid-December to send the Langley, BC team from Canada all the way to Uganda to play baseball against the African team they should have played in Pennsylvania. Donations are being accepted via the web at here. At Watchitoo, we were thrilled with the opportunity to be able to help out these kids and spread the word about the fundraising efforts.
