Youtube Play was this past weekend was exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in NYC after the LIVE event was held at 8pm EST and live streamed from the Guggenheim.
They created a shortlist YouTube/Guggenheim PlayBiennial of top 125 videos from which the top 25 were handpicked by a Jury that gave out awards at the ceremony.
BIRDS ON THE WIRES 2009, created by Jarbas Agnelli was a beautiful artistic video collaboration that featured an original musical composition that was performed live in the main hall at the Guggenheim. Click Here to see his original submission that was also recently performed at TEDx San Paulo.
On October 21, the top videos selected by the YouTube Play jury were revealed and celebrated at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. The videos, which can be viewed below and on youtube.com/play, were than presented over the weekend at Guggenheim Museums in New York, Bilbao, Berlin, and Venice from October 22–24, 2010. They comprised the ultimate YouTube playlist: a selection of the most unique, innovative, groundbreaking video work being created and distributed online during the past two years. It was a call for submissions that lasted over 2 months this summer and called for video makers, producers, youtubers, directors, to submit video compilations that would be voted on by a professional panel of judgesThe deadline for submissions was July 31, 2010 and they received more than 23,000 videos. It was probably one of the biggest calls for video submissions to date.
Something like this had a global online audience that could rival a big broadcast television awards event, but distribution was syndicated solely online. With Host Michael Showwalter, and musical guests like @Mikerelm, and youtube band that went viral and is known around the world: OKGO more and more events like this will be taking off.
The world wants to consume live content online and have it be collaborative.
