As I have traveled abroad on business trips over the years, staying connected to my family has always been of the utmost importance. In addition to phone calls and emails, I have strived to find a way to share my experiences via photos and videos with my wife and children, but I found just sending a link to my photos in an online photo album and hoping that they would enjoy them was not fulfilling. As a Type-A person, I was looking for immediate gratification. I wasn’t willing to wait for them to send an email back encapsulating their emotions. I wanted to see them smiling at all those funny pictures I took, and I wanted to laugh with them. I wanted to be as close to them as I possibly could by narrowing the gap of physical distance.
I often thought it would be wonderful if I could upload my photos and videos, and share them with my family while watching them through video conferencing. I also wanted them to be able to upload their content and share it with me. Finally, it dawned on me that the lack of rich media sharing solutions fostering real-time connections while viewing content created a unique business opportunity.
In January 2007, I founded Watchitoo, to redefine the boundaries of content sharing and social networking. For the first time it enables users to share content in a collaborative and synchronized web environment, while seeing each other using video streaming, as well as communicating via instant-messaging. Watchitoo’s patent-pending technology differentiates itself from the other screen-sharing collaboration solutions by providing better performance, better quality, and ease of use. In addition, Watchitoo offers a real time social networking environment, which combined with real-time collaboration, creates the first and only real-time social collaboration platform.
I hope that by creating a technology that meets my own needs for connecting with my family in a real way when I have to travel with such regularity, I am simultaneously meeting the needs of so many other people. There are many individuals in similar situations, who find themselves separated from family and friends, wanting to share and connect. I really hope you will enjoy the experience of using Watchitoo and be part of the new trend that is now forming – “Real-time social collaboration.”
If my family and friends can watch “it” together, then yours can Watchitoo!
